ISLAMABAD, Feb 17: Family members of a man kidnapped for ransom on Friday could not get a case registered even on Saturday as the police have yet to decide the jurisdiction of the area where the incident occurred.

Sources told Dawn that Fahd, a native of Lahore, came to Islamabad to visit his relatives when he was kidnapped from an area that touched the limits of four police stations including Margalla, Tarnol and Golra.

Sources said the family members received a call from an unidentified person, who told them that he had kidnapped Fahd and demanded Rs10 million for his release. He further asked them to collect Fahd’s vehicle abandoned near Pirwadhai bus terminal.

The family members contacted Islamabad police to lodge a complaint about the incident. But, instead of registering their case, the police officials told them that the area where the crime took place did not fall in their limits.

The officers of all the four police stations visited the area to ascertain the jurisdiction, and told the family members that they were willing to help them in recovering the missing man even if the case was not registered.

The police also visited Pirwadhai bus terminal, but could not find Fahd’s vehicle.

Islamabad police are of the view that the incident took place in the limits of Rawalpindi police, and therefore the case should be registered with them.

They claimed that Fahd was kidnapped by the same gang which had been active in such cases in Rawalpindi. They, therefore, advised the victim’s family to contact Rawalpindi police because the area fell in their limits and besides, they were also well prepared to handle such cases.
