PESHAWAR, Feb 7: NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai has said that the National Public Safety Commission will be made a fully functional and result-oriented body.

Talking to members of the NPSC on Wednesday, he discussed various ways and means for proper enforcement of reforms introduced through the Police Order 2002.

The governor said that the NPSC was supposed to make the police force accountable to people and to protect their interests.

Appreciating the initiatives taken by the commission to visit the entire country, the governor said: “Indeed there is a dire need to promote awareness at every level about the role and responsibilities of the commission which definitely will prove helpful to strengthen its acceptability and ultimately lead to enable it to fulfil its responsibilities efficiently and on the desired standards.”

Mr Aurakzai said that the aim of the reforms was to bring justice closer to the doorsteps of people and wished that the commission would come up to the expectations in this respect.

He said that with the formation of the commission, Pakistan had joined the community of few nations where existed a system of checks and balances on the working of police.

The governor said the constitutional mechanism of the commission itself spoke the sincerity of the government in this respect.—APP
