Pakistan boys prove mettle in HK

KARACHI, Feb 3: Pakistan’s Farhan Mehboob, Farzan Rashid, Waqar Mehboob and Shohaib Hassan have got off to a good start on the opening day of the Asian Junior squash championship in Hong Kong by thrashing their respective rivals in straight sets.

According to a message received here on Saturday, the boys faced no problem in storming to the next round.

However, in the first round of the girls’ contest, three Pakistan girls crashed out while another Maria Toor got bye. She will face Nadindi Udangawa of Sri Lanka in second round.

BOYS (1st round): Farhan Mehboob bt Yu Fung (Hong Kong) 9-0, 9-0, 9-0; Waqar Mehboob bt Wong Hon Fung (Hong Kong) 9-0, 9-1, 9-2; Farzan Rashid bt Mao Bo Yuan (Singapore) 9-0, 9-0, 9-0; Shohaib Hassan bt Nigel Ko Han Sheng (Singapore) 9-5, 9-1, 9-1.

GIRLS’ EVENT: Maria Toor got bye; Chong Man Kiu (Hong Kong) bt Aliya Sarfraz 9-0, 9-1, 9-3; Siu Ka Man (Hong Kong) bt Roshna Mehboob 9-3, 9-3, 9-1; Lee Ka Man (Hong Kong) bt Zoya Khalid 5-9, 9-4, 9-0, 9-2.
