KARACHI, Feb 3: A central leader of Pakistan Peoples’ Party has appealed to the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal to withdraw its candidate for by-election on a vacant national assembly seat (NA-250) in favour of the consensus candidate of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy.
PPP leader and a former federal minister, N.D. Khan made this appeal to the Jamaat-i-Islami chief, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, to direct the MMA candidate to announce his withdrawal in favour of Nafees Ahmed Siddiqui to show complete solidarity among all opposition parties.
Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Minorities Alliance, Sindh chapter, announced its support to PPP candidates Nafees Ahmed Siddiqui and Dr Sikandar Shoro.
Speaking at a press conference, the alliance leaders including Michael Javed urged all minorities particularly Christians to exercise the right of vote in favour of the PPP candidates on February 10.
DEFEATIST ATTITUDE: The Peoples’ Party’s ‘cry wolf’ attitude reflects their defeatist mentality, said Information Adviser Salahuddin Haider while addressing a corner meeting for the NA-250 by-poll in Chaudhri Khaliquzzaman Colony on Friday.
The meeting was organised in support of Haq Parast nominee for the national assembly seat from Defence-Clifton area Akhlaq Hussain Abidi.
Mr Haider told the audience that holding of free and transparent election was the duty of Election Commission. The PPP’s demand for calling army on polling day showed nothing but panic in PPP camp, he added.
