KOHAT, Feb 1: Three explosive devices planted by terrorists near offices of one of the premier intelligence agencies of the country were so sophisticated that officials of the bomb disposal squad had to detonate instead of defusing them.

An investigation officer told Dawn on condition of anonymity on Thursday that the terrorists were highly trained in their field and that they had ensured that the explosive devices were not defused even by experts.

The explosive devices, grenade-like bombs, had been planted on Tuesday night along the wall of public toilet behind the Kohat airport where the offices of Military Intelligence are situated.

A passer-by had seen the bombs and informed the police about them. The police reached the scene and called the bomb disposal squad which detonated the devices.

The officer said that the terrorists wanted to cause panic and fear among the people besides showing that even sensitive places were within their reach.

He said so far no clue had been found about the terrorists who had planted these bombs, but it seemed that it was the work of the same group which had tried to blow up a women’s Imambargah in the same area.

He said the explosives planted in the Imambargah where the women mourners had gathered for a Majlis, was enough to destroy the whole building.
