Afghans face cases for illegal stay

FAISALABAD, Feb 1: The district police would register a case against four illegal Afghan nationals who had been arrested on Muharram 9, sources said on Thursday.

They said the police had held 12 suspects during an operation at different hotels and guesthouses ahead of Youm-i-Ashur. The arrested were identified as Nurani Gul, Muhammad Ahsan, Saifullah, Fakkhur Azam, Zakir Muhammad, M Ishtiaq, Attiqullah and Wali Muhammad of Jalalabad, Allah Muhammad, Abdul Razzaq, Sharafat Din and Muhammad Anwar of Qandhar, Afghanistan.

Sources said six Afghan nationals had been shifted to some undisclosed locations immediately after their arrest. During interrogation, police found that Attiqullah and Wali Muhammad of Jalalabad, Allah Muhammad and Abdul Razzaq of Qandhar had been living in the country without documents. The remaining two accused were released as they had Afghan registration cards issued by the Pakistan government.

DIG (operations) Mohammad Aslam Tareen said a case under Foreigners Act would be registered against those living illegally.

Councillors: The city district council on Thursday asked the union council nazims and its members to provide complete details of missing facilities in the government schools in their jurisdictions.

Nazim Abdullah Dumar told the house that union council 223 had no high school for girls while the condition of primary school was bad. Students had to face difficulties as the school was without any toilet, he added.

EDO (education) Mumtaz Shah told house that 417 students had been studying in the school and it needed upgradation.

Members Mohammad Iqbal, Shakil Awan, Abdul Wajid, Tahir Rashid, Faiz Mohyuddin, Abdul Hafiz and others also briefed the house about the condition of schools in their respective areas.

Convener Mian Amjad Yasin, who was in the chair, directed the EDO to do his utmost for upgrading the schools. He also asked the members to compile details of schools working without facilities.

He said the CDG would ensure facilities in all government schools as it wanted to increase literacy rate.

MURDER: A student was gunned down near Samanabad College on Thursday.

Mehran Rashid of Commerce College had an exchange of hot words with Faisal Mahmood, students of the Samanabad College over some issue.

Faisal along with his accomplices attacked Mehran and subjected him to torture and later shot at him. Mehran was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have registered a case against Faisal and arrested him.
