HYDERABAD, Jan 31: People observed Ashura on Tuesday in a peaceful atmosphere amid unusually elaborate security measures made more tightened in the wake of a series of suicide bombings in different parts of the court.

Police had closed with barbed wires all the streets connecting with the procession’s routes and deployed heavy personnel of police and Rangers along the route.

As a measure of security personnel of police and Rangers had been escorting almost all the big or small taazia and matami processions since Monday night to avoid any unpleasant incident. However, there were no reports of any untoward incident from any part of the district.

Several political and social welfare organisations had set up emergency and medical camps along the routes to give medical treatment to the injured of ailing mourners.

More than 20 outfits had brought out mourning processions with the central procession emerging from Masjid Abul Fazal, Qadam Gah Maula Ali under the aegis of Anjuman-i-Hyderi, which culminated at Qadam Gah Maula Ali.

Maulana Mohammad Abbas performed special Ashura prayers at Masjid Abul Fazal before the central procession headed for Karbala Dadan Shah. Syed Farhan Ali Zaidi addressed Majlis near St. Bonaventure's School followed by zohrain prayers.

Syed Zafar Hussain Turabi addressed Sham-i-Ghariban. Shia organisations had put up banners on both sides along the processions’ routes demanding release of missing Shia activists.
