KARACHI: Prices of roti increase

By A Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 31: With the increase in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the rates of firewood have also gone up, forcing the tandoor walas to raise the price of roti (naan). A roti, which was earlier sold for Rs2.50, is now being sold for Rs3.

The LPG is being sold at Rs50 per kilogram. Gas smuggled from Iran sells between Rs35 to Rs45 per kg.

The rates of firewood have also increased from Rs120 to Rs150 and from Rs150 to Rs180 per 40kg in the last few weeks. As a result, hoteliers, tandoor walas have raised the price of naan.

Firewood dealers when asked said the rates of firewood in Punjab and the interior of Sindh had increased while transportation charges had also gone up and they had no choice except raise prices.

They pointed out that taxi and rickshaw fares had also risen in the last month.
