PESHAWAR, Jan 22: NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai has called for preparation of an action plan within a fortnight for promoting quality education at school level throughout the province and in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Presiding over a meeting at the Governor’s House on Monday, the governor said there were some quality educational institutions in the region but serious efforts were required to identify talented students from across the province and Fata and groom them in accordance with the need of the hour.

NWFP Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, Higher Education Secretary Tariq Jameel, Secretary to the Governor Azmat Haneef, the vice-chancellors of the Peshawar and Hazara universities and principals of the Islamia Collegiate School, University Public School and the University Model School attended the meeting.

The governor asked the authorities concerned to constitute a committee of experts and present him concrete proposals for the purpose within two weeks.

“We will have to create quality schools on a vast level to ensure desired change in educational standards at every level and this can only be possible if quality educational institutions are established at least at district and agency level and the best lot of the students is provided opportunities to get quality education at grass-root level,” he said.

The governor said educational institutions should have strong foundations at the root level to achieve the desired standard of education.

He said the proposed programme should be sustainable and result oriented and it must have the capacity to ensure availability of quality education to every talented student purely on merit.

The governor said a proper mechanism had to be chalked out to run quality educational institutions at the district and agency level.—APP
