KARACHI, Jan 20: Sindh IGP Jehangir Mirza has accorded approval to the Anti-Car Lifting Cell for establishment of Anti-Motorcycle Theft Unit within its functionary framework to effectively check motorcycles’ theft in the city.

The approval was sought during a presentation given by ACLC SSP Abdul Khalid Shaikh at Central Police Office on Saturday. Capital City Police Officer Azhar Ali Farooqui, Additional IG Special Branch Babar Khattak, DIG Saud Ahmed, DIG Operations Syed Mushtaq Shah and DIG Investigation Zone-II Mir Zubair Mahmood attended the meeting.

SSP Khalid Shaikh presented the ACLC’s performance with reference to statistical data. He said the idea behind establishing AMTU aroused after analysis that most of the motorcycles were stolen as compared to snatching. It was, therefore, imperative to check this crime as a separate subject, he added.

Jehangir Mirza directed the ACLC to gear up the available resources to get desirable results. He also endorsed establishment of another unit “Anti Insurance Fraud Unit” within the ACLC as his attention was towards the incidents of vehicle theft where the complaint was lodged just to claim the insurance money. There should be a specialised unit to deal such cases separately, he added.—PPI
