Shoaib’s hostile burst nudges selectors

ISLAMABAD, Jan 7: Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar gave a timely reminder to the national selectors on Sunday when he produced a hostile three-wicket burst to have Abbottabad reeling in Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Silver League match at the Diamond Club Ground.Shoaib, who was overlooked for the Test tour of South Africa, tore apart the Abbottabad batting after Islamabad piled up a massive first-innings total of 526 for six declared.

Shoaib dismissed opener Mohammad Naeem for 14 before sending back Zafar Jadoon and Riaz Kail for ducks to finish with three for 21 in eight impressive overs while the visitors limped to 82 for seven at draw of stumps.

Former Test all-rounder Azhar Mahmood and Islamabad skipper Rao Iftikhar chipped in with two wickets each.Earlier, Bilal Asad earned plaudits for the home side by becoming the third century-maker for Islamabad. The right-hander hit 148 off 151 deliveries with the help of 22 fours and two sixes.
