PESHAWAR, Jan 7: The Environment Protection Agency and representatives of union council 16 will meet again on Monday (today) to discuss measures aimed at controling environmental degradation because of gold processing.

The committee had been constituted on Dec 24, when EPA’s director-general Dr Bashir had held a meeting with Nazim UC 16 Mohammad Ali Safi over press reports about the killing of a number of sacrificial animals in the area because of air pollution caused by gold processing units in the Sarafa Bazaar. The committee had been tasked to survey the area and prepare a list of gold processing units.

The committee will present its report on Monday besides taking various decisions about reducing air pollution in the area.

He said according to estimates, about 400 to 500 people were involved in gold refining.—APP
