KARACHI: Architecture exhibition on 9th


KARACHI, Jan 5: A German exhibition will be opened at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture on January 9. With the theme of ‘Made in Germany- Architecture + Religion’, the Goethe Institut in Karachi presents the second in a series of thematic exhibitions, dealing with contemporary Germany architecture. This instalment continues the engagement with current themes, and showcases nine of Germany's most recent sacred buildings.

Among the works on exhibition will be a parsonage church by the German architect Paul Bvhm, who will deliver a lecture on ‘Religious building in Germany 1923-2006’ at the opening in Karachi. He will give an insight into the work of his family of church builders. He will also discuss the debate on inter-religiousness and integration in Germany, with introducing into his planning of the Mosque in Kvln Ehrenfeld.

Afterwards the renowned Pakistani Architect Ejaz Ahmed will speak on 'Sacred Places in Pakistan', highlighting also religion and architecture in this country.Ahmed is a graduate of the architecture department of the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago and practises for the last 32 years with many major institutional and corporate projects to his credit.

Paul Bvhm will also work with students of the Indus Valley School for Art and Architecture in a one-week workshop to create a tentative draft of a sacred building.—APP
