KARACHI, Jan 4: Family members of Gowaram Saleh resumed their token hunger strike on Thursday after a three-day break due to Eidul Azha. The hunger-strikers comprising his mother, wife and daughters staged a sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club demanding release of Mr Saleh.
Mr Saleh belongs to District Kech of Mekran region of Balochistan. He was reportedly picked up by personnel of a government agency on August 8, 2004 from Talhar check post near Turbat and since then he is missing. His name is also included in the HRCP list of missing persons.
Activists of Baloch nationalist parties visited the camp to express their solidarity with the family and their concern over ‘the negative attitude’ of the government for not producing the detainees before any court.
They pledged to continue their protest till the detainees were either released or produced before courts. Meanwhile, a press release issued here by Jamhoori Watan Party expressed concern over security of Saleem Baloch, senior vice-president, who was rearrested by government agencies on December 31.
The JWP urged all the national and international human rights organisations to take up the issue of Mr Saleem Baloch seriously and pressed the government for his early release.
