QUETTA, Jan 3: Bodies of seven fishermen missing since a speedboat sunk near Jiwani on Sunday were recovered from the Arabian Sea till Wednesday evening, while the boat and nine others had not been found.

Jiwani Tehsil Nazim Wahid Bakhsh Baloch told Dawn: “We are conducting the search operation on self-help bases and no government institution is helping us.”

He said local fishermen would continue the search operation.

However, official sources said personnel of the Maritime Security Agency with the coast guards and local people had launched a massive search operation between Bahore and Fasabin in the Arabian Sea, where the speedboat was last seen.

“There is no chance of any survivor as four days have passed since the incident,” a Maritime Security Agency official said, adding that MSA personnel were making all out efforts to recover the remaining bodies and the boat.

The MSA aircraft were also taking part in the search operation but only seven bodies had been found so far, the sources said.

The Jiwani nazim said the bodies of Abdul Ghafoor, Musa, Mohammad Sharif and Muslim of Pishikan in Gwadar district, Ata Mohammad of Jiwani and Naik Mohammad of Dir had been found. The bodies would be sent to the native towns of the victims, he said.

He said it was not known where the boat had sunk.
