FAISALABAD, Dec 24: The City District Government Faisalabad (CDGF) could not establish the first child protection institute here as the two selected sites have already been occupied by grabbers.

Sources told this correspondent on Saturday that the CDGF had selected two sites at Chak 203-RB — one comprising 50 kanals and nine marlas and the second 59 kanals.

The government officials were shocked when they came to know that both pieces of land had been occupied by land mafia.

Documents made available to Dawn revealed that the EDO (revenue) had forwarded a report to the district coordination officer, stating that the land of Square No 75 was under the illegal occupation of Sajjad Ahmed.

The report said a court had issued a decree in favour of Sajjad who submitted an application to the Board of Revenue for the purchase of the state land by a private treaty, which was under process.

The second selected piece of land had been illegally grabbed by Khurram Abbas and Mushtaq Ahmed who had also moved applications for its purchase through sale by a private treaty.

A district government officer requesting anonymity confirmed that the administration had been facing problems in the establishment of the child protection institute.

He said action would be taken soon to get the land vacated and the Punjab government had also been informed in this regard.
