SHEIKHUPURA, Dec 24: The tehsil municipal administration will install 12 new water filtration plants to provide clean water to the citizens.
Of the 33 plants already installed in the district, some 28 are functioning while the remaining will be repaired very soon, according to Sheikhupura Tehsil Nazim Bilal Ahmad Virk.
Speaking at a press briefing here on Sunday, Mr Virk dispelled the impression that the TMA was illegally collecting wagon stand fee, saying the process was transparent and in keeping with the local government rules.
He said wagon stand fee was not something new as the succeeding tehsil governments had been collecting it and all incumbent administrations were keeping the tradition alive since it was a source of income for carrying out uplift projects and meet other expenses.
He said some vested interests had moved the Lahore High Court which had directed the TMAs to follow rules and regulations in the fee recovery process.
Irregularities had been done away with and the process made transparent, he said, pledging that no illegal tax would be imposed during his tenure.
Admitting that encroachments and insanitary conditions were major public issues, the nazim vowed to tackle the problems besides improving the lot of educational institutions working under the TMA.
Parks and gardens and other recreational facilities in the city would be beautified and furnished to the people’s liking, he added.
BOOKED: Cases were registered in Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib police stations against more than 50 prayer leaders for violating the amplifier act.
