KARACHI Dec 24: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the Pakistan Muslim League leadership and its allied parties are fully committed to realising the Quaid-i-Azam’s vision of transforming Pakistan into a tolerant, democratic and economically vibrant society.
He was talking to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim at the Governor’s House here on Sunday. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Durrani, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Senator Tariq Azeem and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Commander (r) Khalilur Rahman were also present.
The premier said the government had introduced reforms in every sector, and specifically mentioned the steps being taken to empower women in political, economic and social sector.
He said that in addition to the recently enacted law on protection of women’s rights, more steps would be taken to bring an end to discrimination against women.
Talking about interfaith harmony, Mr Aziz said religious scholars from all faiths should play a positive role in ensuring unity. “The government treats its minorities as a sacred trust, and has ensured equal rights and opportunities for them in every field.”
He appreciated efforts by the Sindh government for accelerating pace of uplift in the province.
Dr Ibad and Dr Arbab briefed the premier about various public welfare projects under way in the province.—PPI
