GUJRANWALA, Dec 22: Owners of motorcycle-rickshaws took out a protest rally against the regional transport authority secretary and motorway police for not allowing them to bring their vehicles on roads here on Friday.

The protesters gathered on the GT Road and demonstrated there after parking their vehicles on the middle of the road. They also shouted slogans against the RTA secretary and the motorway police. They alleged that the RTA secretary in some cases had slapped a fine of up to Rs2,000 per vehicle which was an act of oppression.

They said they had purchased their vehicles on a monthly installment, but the RTA secretary in a bid to benefit private bus companies had made their lives miserable.

Some owners — Arif, Zulfikar, Nadim and Asrhaf alleged that the motorway police punctured their vehicles and imposed heavy penalties on them whenever they took passengers to Sabzi Mandi at Khiali by-pass intersection.
