CBMs between India, Pakistan welcomed

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 18: The European Parliament welcomes the confidence-building measures (CBMs) between Pakistan and India through a gradual and bilateral diplomatic process and supports the proposals made by President Gen Pervez Musharraf on redeployment and withdrawal of troops from the borders.

This was stated by Neena Gill, leader of the eight-member delegation from the European Union Parliament, in a meeting with Kashmir Committee Chairman Hamid Nasir Chattha here at the Parliament House on Monday.

The meeting was attended by Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Secretary-General Mushahid Hussain Syed, Leader of the House in Senate Waseem Sajjad, Minister of State for Petroleum Mir Muhammad Naseer Mengal, Sardar Talib Hussain Nakai, Munir Khan Orakzai and Dr Noor Jehan Panezai.

Ms Gill appreciated the agreement made to promote trade, commerce and other trade-related building measures.

The leader of the European Union delegation referred to the Emma Nicholson report and said voting in the European Parliament on Kashmir was deferred on the request of this delegation so that they could give their report on the issue after their visit to Pakistan.
