QUETTA, Dec 17: Balochistan lawyers will observe a token hunger strike and boycott court proceedings on Tuesday in protest against the arrest of lawyers and their ill-treatment in prisons.

In a statement issued late on Saturday, Pakistan Bar Council vice-chairman Ali Ahmed Kurd Advocate said that the decision was taken in an emergent meeting held at the bar room.

The meeting condemned the large-scale arrests of lawyers from different areas of Balochistan and their mistreatment by the prison administration in the district jail, Quetta.

The statement said that Ali Ahmed Kurd and Hadi Shakeel Ahmed, president, Balochistan High Court Bar Association, would lead the hunger strike in district and high court bar rooms, respectively.

The meeting also demanded immediate release of the arrested lawyers.
