Azhar excels with five wickets haul


KARACHI, Dec 16: Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood excelled with a five-wicket haul to lead Habib Bank Limited (HBL) to an innings and 20 runs victory over Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) in a four-day quadrangular stage match of the Patron's Trophy at the UBL Sports Complex on Saturday.

Azhar, who took two wickets in the first innings, gave away only 35 runs to snatch five wickets to play a major role in HBL’s win on the second day of the match.

ZTBL who were bundled out for only 64 in their first innings were restricted to only 170 in 47.1 overs in their second innings after the winners posted 254 in their first innings.

Trail by 190 runs, Imran Sabir (62) and Inam-ul-Haq (47) were the only batsmen who offered some resistance to HBL.

Earlier, the winners scored 254 runs in 69.1 overs in their first innings with Riffatullah being the top scorer with 88 while Azhar Mahmood scored defiant 47.

Pacer Mohammad Khalil claimed another five-wicket haul for the ZTBL.

Summarised scores:

ZTBL 64 in 30 overs (Umer Javed 18; Fahad Masood 4-11, Sajid Sami 3-9) and 170 in 47.1 overs (Imran Sabir 62, Inam-ul-Haq 47; Azhar Mahmood 5-35).
