Man shot dead by ex-wife

NOWSHERA, Dec 15: A woman killed her former husband in police custody to avenge the killing of her brother at the district courts on Friday. The deceased was identified as Ibrar.

He was brought to the court in connection with a murder case of Akhter Ali, the brother of his former wife, Naheed Akhter.

The woman, Naheed Akhter, fired three shots at the man when police brought him out of the court room and taking him to the judicial lock-up.

The woman was caught red-handed by some court officials and was handed over to police.

She told police that the deceased, who had divorced her, was a cruel man.

She said that he used to treat her harshly and often subjected her to torture causing her miscarriages thrice.

She said that she had a two-and-a-half-year old daughter and was divorced by Ibrar due to continuous domestic differences.

The man had also threatened to kill her, if she continued to pursue the case of her killed brother.

Ms Akhter said that she had no repentance for her act and the deceased deserved to be killed.

An FIR has been registered at the Nowshera Cantt police station on complaint of police official Mujahid Shah under section seven of the Anti-Terrorism Act and the section 13 of the Arms Ordinance.

The complainant stated that the deceased was brought to the court of judicial magistrate Sadaf Gul Durrani where Ms Akhter was already present.

He said that after the court hearing, they were taking the accused to the judicial lock-up when the woman fired at him in front of the court of additional district and sessions judge, Abdul Ghafoor Qureshi.

As a result, he was injured seriously.

He was taken to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar where he succumbed to his injuries.
