JSQM protests against forced disappearances: SC urged to take notice

Dawn Report

HYDERABAD, Dec 14: On the call of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), protest demonstrations were held across the province on Thursday against the ‘forced disappearance’ of nationalist leaders Dr Safdar Sarki, Akash Mallah, Asif Baladi and others and the sale of two Karachi islands to a foreign company.

In Hyderabad, the chairman of the organising committee of the Mahaz, Shafi Mohammad Karnani and other leaders led a rally. The Mahaz activists staged a sit-in outside the Hyderabad press club and kept the road blocked for quite some time.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Karnani, Mushtaq Khan, Kehar Ansari and others said that an unannounced operation had been launched in Sindh against the workers of the nationalist parties. They said the nationalist leaders were being picked up by intelligence agencies and held incommunicado. They said the detained leaders had not been shown arrested.

They also condemned the sale of Sindh's islands to a foreign company and warned that the nationalist parties would resist the move.

They appealed to the superior judiciary to take notice of what they called flagrant violations of the rights of Sindhi people.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: JSQM leader Bashir Khan Qureshi said on Thursday that the sale of islands of Sindh would not be tolerated.

He was speaking to the JSQM activists at a hunger-strike camp at Jalalji road chowk, Padidan.

He said the movement for the release of Dr Sarki, Jagdish Kumar and other leaders had been launched.

In Kandiaro, the JSQM activists led by taluka president of JSQM, Asif Mehdi Shah, took out a rally from village Baladi to star chowk Kandiaro. Participants of the rally demanded immediate release of Dr Sarki, Mallah, Baladi and others.

In Moro, a large number of JSQM activists, led by district president Ashraf Laghari, also took out a rally against the arrest of their leaders. They condemned the termination of workers from Habib Sugar Mills Nawabshah. They also condemned Nawabshah police for allegedly registering false cases against JSQM workers.

KHAIRPUR: JSQM activists led by Fayaz Khamisani and Shabbir Jamali took out a rally from Khamisani House. The rally marched through main roads including mall road, civic centre chowk, old city court, before reaching the press club.

The protesters demanded of the authorities to reveal the whereabouts of the arrested leaders.

DADU: The protest rally in Dadu passed through various roads and streets. The protesters also held a demonstration outside the press club.
