HYDERABAD, Dec 14: The district nazim of Hyderabad, Kanwar Naveed Jamil, has said that main purpose of appointing district monitoring committees was to maintain check and balance over the government organizations to ensure efficient utilization of government resources.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting of all chairmen of district monitoring committees at district nazim secretariat here on Wednesday. District naib nazim Hyderabad Mr. Zafar Rajput, DCO Hyderabad Mr. Muhammad Hussain Syed, all EDOs and officers of district government, Hyderabad attended the meeting.

The district nazim asked all the chairmen and members of district monitoring committees to fix their targets in consultation with EDOs of concerned departments and prepare a strategy in such a way so that efficient deliveries could be ensured to the people. He said that he would review the strategy of each monitoring committee through individual meetings with them after one week.

He said the public representatives must oversee the working of district officials and submit their reports to him for streamlining the working of government departments He said that though district government has a strength of 25,000 staff and it is difficult to monitor their working but this tasks could be achieved through effective management and distribution of work by the monitoring committees.

The district naib nazim of Hyderabad, Zafar Rajput, who is also the convenor of the district council of Hyderabad, identified the bottlenecks experienced by him and the members of the district council of Hyderabad and said that since last one year the district council had passed may resolutions but it never received any feedback from the departments of district government which are supposed to inform the council about their targets and added that the officers of district government didn't bother to attend the council sessions regularly.

He said that this practice of officers of government departments has created difficulties for the councillors and even members of monitoring committees to perform their responsibilities.

The DCO Hyderabad, Muhammad Hussain Syed, said that coordination and cooperation between public representatives and officers of government organizations was essential to get the output and achieve targets. He said appropriate monitoring mechanism was a source of efficient utilization of available resources of the departments in achieving the targets. However, he was also of the view that observations and decisions of the monitoring committees should be on merit to make this mechanism a success.

GREEN BELT: The district nazim of Hyderabad, Kanwar Naveed Jamil, has said that to have a pollution- free atmosphere was a fundamental right of the people and added that green belts go a long way in controlling pollution.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a green belt being laid from tank chowrangi to doctors square and up to disposal centre, Latifabad here on Wednesday.

The taluka nazim of Latifabad, Sabir Hussain Kaimkhani, naib nazim, Shujauddin Shaikh, elected representatives and officials of the district government were present on the occasion.

Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that the district government was doing everything humanly possible to provide pollution free atmosphere to the citizens. He said in furtherance of this objective, many a park and playground were under construction and green belts were being laid. He said, an amount of Rs2.725 million had been spent on the instant project.

The district nazim further said that the beautification work on Auto Bhan road up to unit no.7 and Bhittai hospital road was also in progress. He appealed to the people to help the district government in its beautification programme.
