KARACHI: Bangladeshi art at Chawkandi


KARACHI, Dec 14: A group exhibition of artists from Bangladesh opens at Chawkandi Art on Friday, December 15th, at 5.30pm. The exhibition has been organised in collaboration withj the Society for Promotion of Bangladesh Art (SPBA). The exhibition will last until December 22.

The participating artists are Ashraful Hasan, Nasreen Begum, Fariah Zeba, Nazlee Laila Mansur, Mohammed Eunus, Rafi Haque, Monirul Islam, Rebecca Molly and Javed Jalil. The Society for Promotion of Bangladesh Art (SPBA) was formed in February 2002 with the objective of promotion of Bangladesh art in the world. Fifty percent of SPBA resources are allocated for the development of upcoming artists who do not get the opportunity to promote their works.

As it’s first endeavour, the SPBA published the first book of its kind in Bangladesh representing the works of over 60 artists. The book titled ‘Bangladesh Art” is a collection of contemporary paintings and received international acclaim. The Norwegian government was the major sponsor of the book.

SPBA has sponsored several exhibition of Bangladeshi artist in many countries including Japan, France, India, Pakistan, Poland, Italy and Japan, France, India, Pakistan, Poland, Italy and Germany. Every year SPBA also organises exhibitions and workshops for young artists, art students and children’s art.
