LAHORE, Dec 13: The Lahore General Hospital’s administration is unaware of the alleged negligence of its orthopedic surgeon that resulted in the death of a young man on Tuesday.
Malik Aslam’s right leg was reportedly fractured when a speeding cab hit his motorcycle on his way to Kasur last week. He was rushed to the LGH where orthopedic surgeon Dr Zaman Khan attended him.
Aslam’s father alleged that Dr Khan delayed his son’s operation for four days and asked the family to shift him to Al-Shafa Medical Complex in Kasur, where he was a consultant.
At the medical complex, he said, Dr Khan, along with three other doctors, operated upon Aslam after charging Rs30,000. However, owing to excessive bleeding during the operation, the patient’s condition deteriorated and the doctors rushed him to the LGH. Aslam died on the way.
The LGH is functioning without a medical superintendent these days. The post fell vacant last week when Dr Shaikh Ijaz was transferred. The senior hierarchy expressed ignorance about the incident.
However, a senior doctor told Dawn that Dr Khan was not seen in his ward on Wednesday. He said that no orders had been issued from the authorities concerned to probe the matter.
The Kasur police have registered a murder case against the accused, along with Dr Kaleem, Dr Tahir, and Dr Ashfaq, who also worked at the private hospital.
A duty officer at Sadar police station, Kasur, said that none of the accused had been arrested so far.
WORKSHOP: The University of Health Sciences is organising a two-day workshop on teaching of behavioural sciences on Thursday (today).
