KARACHI, Dec 12: The Shia Ulema Council’s Karachi president, Allama Nazir Taqvi, has said the rulers are eager to impose western culture on the nation and put the country on the road to secularism.
Allama Taqvi, who is also MMA-Karachi’s vice president, was addressing a protest rally in Manzoor Colony held to protest against the Women Protection Act.
He said that through the amendment in the Hudood Ordinances, the Chaudhries, Waderas, Sardars and profligate rulers had been provided with legal cover for their immoral activities and the WPA had created a non-congenial atmosphere in the country and this challenge could only be met with through unity of the opposition.
Recalling that people of different nationalities and schools of thought live in Pakistan and were united by the constitution, but the rulers were running the country by sheer force, which was a threat to the solidarity of the country, Syed Kausar Zaidi said.
He pointed out that the ulema only wanted the establishment of just rule in the country as ordained by the Quran as the law and order problem could only be solved through justice and fair play.
Abdul Ghaffar Khanani, on the occasion, said all democratic forces should unite and their members should resign from parliament to demonstrate their commitment to the Islamic teachings. He also demanded the constitution of an independent election commission for holding fair, free and transparent elections in the country.
