DOHA, Dec 11: Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan lost the doubles quarter-final at the Asian Games tennis competition to top seed Indian pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi here on Monday.
Aisam-Aqeel could not do much on the synthetic courts of the Al-Khalifa Stadium, bowing down tamely in 67 minutes 2-6, 4-6 and with their fall Pakistan’s hopes for a possible bronze medal also vanished.
With the loss, Pakistan have completed a lacklustre show in the singles and doubles, failing to make any impression which suggests a downward trend of Pakistani tennis back home.
GOLFERS END IN 12TH SPOT: Pakistan proved their failure in golf by securing 12th place in the team event on Monday.
The Pakistan team comprising Vaqas Ahmad, Ali Hai, Safdar Khan and Tariq Mehmood scored 913 as the South Korean quartet of Hoon Sung Kang, Kim Do Sr, Kim Do Jr and Kim Kyung posted a score of 836 for the gold, India made a grand recovery jumping two places high from their previous position to clinch the silver (849).
Taiwan won the bronze medal with 850 points as Japan who were aiming for a medal had to content with fourth place.—APP
