KARACHI, Dec 10: The Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation has constituted a 40-member team led by a senior bank officer to launch a drive for the recovery of outstanding dues.
This was told to the KESC’s 96th annual general meeting of shareholders here on Sunday. The meeting was presided over by Shan Ashary, senior member of the KESC Board of Directors, and attended by MD Frank Scherschmidt, Chief Financial Officer Mohammad Asghar, Chief Legal Counsel Shahana Ahmed Ali, Principal Information Officer Syed Sultan Hasan, and shareholders Mazhar Chaudhry, Muzahir Mustafa, and others.
CFO Mohammad Asghar said that the KESC was considering recovering the outstanding dues for which after lengthy deliberation, a 40-member team was formed. The service of a senior banker had been sought who would head the team to begin the recovery drive, he told the meeting.
Besides, he said: “For eliminating illegal connections (kundas) we will introduce a scheme by which people would be able to use electricity in a legal way.”
MD KESC Mr Frank gave a multimedia presentation to the meeting and highlighted the KESC existing distribution network, generation situation and human resource related steps being taken by the present management.
He told the meeting that new human resource policy for the benefit of the employees was under consideration while service contracts of all contractual employees had been extended for one year. As far as power generation was concerned, Mr Frank said by rehabilitation of Bin Qasim Power Station, additional electricity of 115mw could be obtained.
He asserted that several steps were being taken for improving the network and distribution system. “A modern Load Dispatch Centre is being established for the digital monitoring of the city power supply network”, he said.
The shareholders gave various proposals at the meeting for improving the power generation and distribution to overcome the frequent load-shedding.
The members of the Board of Directors assured the shareholders of considering their proposals for future planning and improvement of the city power supply system for the benefit of consumers.
