MQM, ulema discuss women’s rights act

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 9: Matters pertaining to the recently approved women’s protection act were discussed when a 17-member delegation of religious scholars representing Majlis-i-Tahafuz-i-Hudoodullah met leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement at Nine Zero on Saturday.

Representatives of PML-Q also attended the meeting.

Religious scholar Maulana Qari Mohammed Hanif said the women’s protection bill, which was imposed on the nation in the form of an act was not only against the tenets of Quran and Sunnah, but also the rights of women. He made it clear that the visit to ‘90’ (MQM headquarters) had no political significance and was only aimed at discharging responsibility for the supremacy of the Quran and to inform the MQM leadership in that connection.

He said the government had constituted an ulema committee in which, besides him, Mufti Taqi Usmani, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rahman, Maulana Hasan Jan and Maulana Ghulam-ur-Rahman were included.
