DOHA, Dec 6: Pakistan’s cueists Khurram Agha and Shaukat Ali won first round singles matches in the Doha Asian Games on Wednesday.

Khurram was extended full length by United Arab Emirates’ Sultan Mohammad Al Jokar, who caused a big threat to the Pakistani by denying him success in the first and fourth frames.

Khurram, however, demonstrated perfect skills to get a place in second round.

The score of the match was 52-62, 100-7, 76-28, 43-49, 70-23, 93-1.

In another match, Shaukat Ali defeated Su Wan Lee of South Korea 52-62, 100-7, 76-28, 43-49, 70-23, 93-1.

Meanwhile, India knocked archrivals Pakistan out of the quarter-finals of the men’s team event with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday night.

The Pakistan team, comprising Mohammad Yousuf, Khurram Agha and Shaukat Ali, fell tamely to a strong Indian side having the services of Ashwinbhai, Rupesh, Reza Yasim Merchant and Snehal Aditya Mehta.

India defeated Pakistan 68-13, 66-22 and 86-36 which clearly shows India’s domination in the match. —APP
