Nafees, Hossain shine as BD beat Zimbabwe

DHAKA, Dec 3: Half centuries by openers Shahriar Nafees and Mehrab Hossain gave Bangladesh an easy six-wicket victory over Zimbabwe, after restricting the visitors to 217 for seven, in the second limited-overs international Sunday.

Nafees, who scored a third consecutive century against Zimbabwe in the first match of the series, smashed his fifty off 47 balls with eight boundaries. Nafees managed to hit 67 off 68 balls before being dismissed by Elton Chigumbura.

Hossain's maiden one-day fifty - in his third international match - came off 108 balls and included four boundaries. He was taken out by skipper Prosper Utseya at 54.

Player of the match Sean Williams caught and bowled Aftab Ahmed (12), while Sakib Al Hasan was run out for 36.

Captain Habibul Bashar (31) and Mohammad Ashraful (4) were batting when Bangladesh reached 218 runs in 42.4 overs to win the match.

Earlier, Williams hit his maiden one-day half century to help struggling Zimbabwe post a total of 217 for seven wickets after Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first.

Williams smashed four boundaries and one six to bring up his 61 off 70 balls before he was dismissed by spinner Mohammad Rafique.

Hamilton Masakadza made 41 and Chamunorwa Chibhabha contributed 31, while Zimbabwe's batsmen struggled at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in northern Bogra town.

Paceman Mashrafee Bin Mortaza and spinners Rafique and Al Hasan each grabbed two wickets.

Bangladesh, who won the first one-day match last week by nine wickets, now leads the five-match series 2-0.
