KARACHI, Dec 3: Shrugging off the four dismal runs to his credit, two-year-old bay colt, Inside Story pulled off a major upset when he outpaced favourite bay filly Phapha Kutni by three lengths to claim Sprinter’s Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting at Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Ridden by jockey M. Nasir and saddled by Mushtaq Ali Khan, the colt from the stables of Haji Khuda Bux Rajar, overcame bad patch to present a winner to his owner.

The race goers were taken aback with triumph as Phapha Kutni with Mohammad Essa on the mount was fancied to lift the cup.

She already had the Youngster Cup under her belt which she landed in the Oct 29 meeting under M. Manzoor.

Chestnut filly Rebecca finished third while bay filly Samreen completed the frame.

Despite showers at half way the days programme was held without any interruption.

Nasir had a brace of winners as he later piloted three-year-old colt Awan with no form worth to victory.

The opening two races also had surprise in store for punters. Three-year-old bay colt, Captain Cook, who has never been on the board, beat favourite chestnut Lucky View to grab the opener while chestnut filly Abhi Abhi with Essa in the saddle, edged out fancied bay colt Dubawi by barest of the margin.

Essa later added two more winners to his tally – Terrorist and Al Zarrar – to end the day with a treble. His three winners belonged to Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara.

Seven-year-old grey bay horse Silver City who was installed favourite atoned to last poor run. Three-year-old bay filly, Lady Conqueror, registered his maiden win while filly, Voo Doo Doll, made amends to emerge victorious in the other races of the day.
