BAHAWALPUR, Dec 3: The LPG distributors association has urged the government to recover Rs7 billion `undue’ profit earned by LPG producers and provide subsidy with this recovered amount to consumers.
The association elected Muhammad Irfan Khokhar as chairman for another four-year term at its convention on Sunday.
The convention passed a number of resolutions, asking the producers and companies to fix 15 per cent profit margin for distributors.
The association demanded withdrawal of the recent increase of Rs9,203 per ton, waiving of all taxes on LPG import and permission for import on zero margin.
It also demanded 50 per cent gas subsidy for consumers and fixation of LPG prices by marketing companies for a year.
The association said in order to bring about stability in LPG prices, the government should constitute a committee in which distributors should also be given representation.
The participants called upon producers not to cancel any distribution agency without a 90-day notice and the system of advance payments should also be stopped in future.
Other officer-bearers included Punjab president Sirajul Munir, secretary-general Zafar Malik, Sindh president Taimur Malik, secretary-general Faiz Ahmed, NWFP chief Sher Zaman and secretary-general Ibrahim Khan.
About 150 officer-bearers from all the four provinces and the AJK participated in the convention.
