KARACHI, Dec 3: Law enforcement agencies on Sunday afternoon foiled an attempt by the Balochistan Yakjehti Committee to hold a public meeting near Juna Masjid, Shah Latif Bhitai Road to condemn the killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.
The agencies cordoned off venue of the meeting and arrested two of the organisers, Ghulam Mohammad Baloch, chairman of Baloch National Movement, and Sher Mohammad Baloch, a central leader of the Jamhoori Watan Party.
Khan of Kalat Suleiman Dawood, Nawabzada Jamil Bugti, Sardar Sanuallah Zehri, and several other prominent Baloch leaders were expected to address the meeting.
Later, Shehzada Zafar Jan, provincial information secretary of the JWP, condemned the agencies’ action. However, he wondered why the action had been resorted to as the BYC had already put off the meeting due to the sudden rainfall.
Protesting against the action and arrests, a group of angry youth lit bonfire to block the road and disrupt vehicular traffic. The road was cleared after some time.
Meanwhile, the BYC has announced that it will organise a protest rally on Monday outside the Karachi Press Club if the detained leaders were not released.
