Death sentence for kidnappers

GUJRANWALA, Nov 29: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 handed down death sentence to two convicts in a kidnap for ransom case here on Wednesday.

According to the prosecution, convicts Shakeel and Arshad had kidnapped Irfan of Kharian and later released him after receiving Rs425,000 in ransom from his heirs on April 27. The court also ordered forfeiting property of both convicts.

Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge handed down capital punishment with a fine of Rs200,000 to a convict in a double murder case here. According to the prosecution, convict Khursheed Ahmed had killed his former wife Khursheed Bibi and daughter Sumaira in Kamoki in 2003.

ARRESTED: Aroop police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested three robbers, including a eunuch, in a raid and recovered looted goods from their possession.

Police said that Amanullah, Asghar and eunuch Khushbu entered a jewellery shop of Tariq Javed and snatched from him Rs50,000 in cash and ornaments. Police recovered three pistols and looted cash and gold from their possession.

A case has been registered against them.

STRIKE CALLED OFF: Sanitary workers called off their strike against the non-payment of their salaries for the last three months after the assurance of the district administration here on Wednesday.

Reports said that sanitary workers had been protesting for the last five days. On Wednesday, solid waste management district officer Dr Muhammad Ajmal visited the protesters when they were staging a sit-in at Liaquat Bagh. The DO assured protesters that their salaries would be released shortly as the city district council meeting had approved the supplementary budget.

FOUND MURDERED: A young girl of Garjakh, who was abducted some five days ago, was found murdered in a field here on Wednesday.

Reports said that deceased `S’, the daughter of Iqbal, was abducted by Adnan and his accomplice from her house. Police shifted the body to the local DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

A murder case has been registered against the nominated accused.
