FAISALABAD, Nov 29: The Pakistan Peoples Party leadership has declared the rulers as a security risk and said now people have to play their role to save the federation.
Punjab PPP president Shah Mahmud Qureshi, secretary-general Ghulam Abbas, former Punjab governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar said this while addressing a huge gathering at Mahmoodabad on Wednesday night.
They said the present regime had put the country’s security at stake and the federation was also facing a serious threat. They said the situation might take a serious turn as people of small provinces were thinking against Punjabis. Three provinces are considering Punjab its enemy, they said.
They claimed that the government had sold out Kashmir to India, adding it was killing the people of Balochistan, Wana, Bajaur and Wazirstan to please foreign masters.
“People are being killed and no body bothers to react to the desecration of the Holy Quran which is regrettable. Now time has come for military to return to the barracks and political leaders to rule,” they added.
Condemning the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti, the PPP leaders said that the party would bring his killers to justice and people would be informed in this regard.
Terming the economic policies of the government ill-conceived, they said people were committing suicide and price-hike and unemployment were on the rise. They alleged that the Punjab chief minister was patronising dacoits and deteriorating law and order had created a sense of insecurity among people.
“The days of the rulers are numbered and we would not allow them a safe exit,” they said. They urged the people to take to streets and unite against the rulers as it was the need of the hour.
They said Chaudhrys were supporting the uniform because they had no contacts with the masses.
To restore the democracy to the country, they said the military ruler should be made to go, they stressed.
The PPP leaders urged the chief election commissioner to stop the president from presiding over meetings of the ruling party.
They vowed that Benazir Bhutto would be brought back in the country before the general election and no body could dare to stop her.
Former federal minister Khalid Kharal, Farzana Raja, Uzma Bukhari, Rana Aftab Ahmed, Ijaz Virk, Dr Asad Moazzam and others also addressed.
