Ahmed steers team to victory

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 26: Five goals by Ahmed Ali Tiwana, including a hat trick helped Artex win the Future Concern Polo Cup, edging out Red Mountain Suria Resort in the final 7-5 1/2 on Sunday.

Beleaguered Asif Tiwana, who scored all five for the losers who had a half-goal handicap, drew first blood converting a 40-yard penalty hit in the first chukker to give his side 1 1/2-0 lead.

The winners came close to reduce the lead to 2 1/2-2 as Hashim Kamal Agha scored two fine field goals. But Asif's second goal, cashing in on another 40-yard penalty hit, helped the losers maintain the slim half-goal lead.

But Ahmed struck his hat-trick in the third chukker to give the winners lead 5-3 1/2 lead. Ahmed scored all three after a long chase of the ball. Asif pumped in his second, this time capitalising a 60-yard penalty hit with a lofted shot.

The fourth chukker proved a direct competition between Ahmad and Asif as both scored two each.

In an earlier match four-goal Ashfaq enabled Harvesters to grab third spot defeating Lahore Nights 5-4.

Sameer Habib Oberoi produced the remaining goal for the winners.

For the losers, Feroze Gulzar scored three goals while Naveed M Sheikh chipped in with a goal.
