BAHAWALPUR, Nov 26: Tehrik-i-Istiqlal chief Air Marshal Asghar Khan (retired) has called for restoration of the 1973 Constitution in its original form deleting all amendments incorporated in it by the previous regimes, including those by the army rulers.
At a press conference here on Sunday, Asghar Khan said that all the family laws introduced by the late General Ziaul Haq should be repealed. He said although the 1973 Constitution had several flaws, there was a need to restore it in its original shape for the larger national interest.
The TI chief said that not only Punjab should be divided into three provinces — upper, central and south — but the three other provinces should also be divided into three independent units each so that all the four provinces could have equal representation in the senate. He asserted that these 12 federating units would strengthen the federation.
He said the TI would contest the general election in 2007. —Correspondent
