Lincou retains squash title


ISLAMABAD, Nov 25: Frenchman Thierry Lincou defeated compatriot Gregory Gaultier 3-1 to retain the title of the US$85,000 Pakistan Open World squash championship at the Mushaf Squash Complex on Saturday.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was the chief guest. Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mehmood Ahmed was also present on the occasion.

The world no.3 Thierry Lincou, who was defending his title, dominated the final throughout, posting victory against world no.5 Gregory Gaultier in 53 minutes. Lincou won 11-8, 6-11, 11-5, 11-5.

The prime minister announced Rs10 million as financial assistance for revitalising the game of squash in which Pakistan once held world supremacy.—APP
