DERA GHAZI KHAN, Nov 25: A youth who married of his free will was booked for kidnap and violation of Islamic injunctions as the bride’s mother claimed that the groom was breast-fed by her as an infant.

According to Islamic jurisprudence, if a girl and boy are breast-fed by a single woman as infants they become (Razaee) sister and brother and hence can’t marry each other.

Reports said Salma, daughter of Karim Bakhsh and Aamir of village Lohar Wala were engaged in their infancy about 17 years ago by their parents. A month earlier, when Aamir’s parents approached Salma’s family for marriage, the girl’s mother, Fatima Bibi, refused to honour the commitment saying the marriage was not possible as she had breast-fed Aamir in his infancy.

However, the lovebirds rejected Fatima’s claim and after marrying without her consent left the village for unknown destination.

Fatima got a Fatwa from a local cleric, Mufti Karim Bakhsh, who declared the marriage un-Islamic. To support her claim, Fatima also produced two `witnesses’ Ismaeel and Riyaz.

Saddar police, on Fatima’s complaint, have registered two cases against Amir—one for kidnapping Salma and the other for violating Islamic law.

Sources say Fatima’s claim was baseless and she concocted the story to break the marriage, which was solemnized without her consent. Investigation SP concerned was not available for his comments. Meanwhile, it is learnt a village jury will meet on Sunday (today) to resolve the dispute in a peaceful way.
