GUJRANWALA, Nov 25: How threatening is it to be an eyewitness to a murder case or pursuing it can be judged from the recent spate of incidents in which the culprits have dared to go to the extreme of silencing the complainants for good.

On Saturday another such incident at Rakh Kikranwali village added to the tally as some proclaimed offenders killed a girl who, as an eyewitness to the murder of her brother, resolved to take the culprits to gallows.

According to reports, POs Irfan, Zaman, Asghar and others had killed Muhammad Qaiser for pursuing the murder of his relative. However, his sister Robina Shahzadi resolved to continue the job his brother left to her shoulders and started pursuing both the cases.

The POs who have been at large ever since they committed the first murder started threatening the family with dire consequences. Accordingly they visited the house at the village and shot dead Robina.

The Ferozewala police have registered a case against the accused. This is not the first case of its kind as many such incidents have taken place in the last couple of months across the province and the police have failed to arrest the accused and provide protection to the complainants.

INQUIRY: District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Husain on Saturday ordered an inquiry against the Wahando police station SHO and other officials for detaining an alleged robber without registration of a case against him.

The police had picked up Aslam from his house and detained him at the police station from where a bailiff recovered him when his family moved court.

HOSPITALS: The construction of five 100-bed hospitals for industrial workers will be completed next year at a cost of Rs516 million, Punjab Labour and Human Resources Minister Syed Akhtar Husain Rizvi told a meeting here on Saturday.
