PESHAWAR: Peshawar HC assured of price laws enforcement
PESHAWAR, Nov 25: Various high ranking government officials assured the Peshawar High Court of fully enforcing laws meant for checking price hike in the provincial capital.
On the directives of Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan, a meeting was held in the high court with the registrar, Mohammad Sher Shah Khan, in the chair.
The meeting was attended by the provincial food department secretary and director, Peshawar district coordination officer and capital city police chief. Officers of the high court, Niaz Mohammad Khan and Mohammad Tariq Sohail also attended the meeting.
The chief justice had taken a suo motu notice of the price hike and adulteration while hearing a writ petition filed by a sweet house against raid conducted by an official of the food department. The chief justice had directed the officers concerned to visit the court and apprise them what steps they had taken for checking arbitrary increase in prices of daily use commodities.
In the meeting, various issues pertaining to activities under the Food Stuff Control Act and Pure Food Ordinance were discussed.
Representatives of the provincial and district governments apprised the meeting about the steps taken by the provincial government and the local administration regarding the price control and checking of the quality of the food stuff and essential commodities.
Earlier, Deputy Advocate-General Sardar Ali Raza had submitted a report stating that the food department had charge sheeted 147 people for price hike from Nov 1 to Nov 21 and were fined Rs83,800.—Bureau Report
