SHEIKHUPURA, Nov 19: Factory Area police on Sunday killed a proclaimed offender and arrested his three accomplices during an encounter while four others managed to escape.

This was claimed by DPO Dr Muhammad Shafique in a press conference here.

He said PO Amanat Changher, Waris alias Warsu, Saif, Saleem, Shaukat, Nazir, Ashraf and Ghafoori were fleeing on a van and a bike after looting goods from a medicines factory. A police patrol, comprising DSP Faisal Gulzar, SHO Rana Azmat Hayat and SI Mehdi Bhatti intercepted them on suspicion. On seeing the police, they opened fire. During a shootout, Amanat of Qila Sattar Shah was killed on the spot. The arrested included Waris, Saif and Salim while others managed to escape.

The DPO said during initial investigation, the accused had confessed to more than 25 incidents, which they committed in Sheikhupura, Nankana and Sherakot, Lahore.

To a question regarding the Gajiana incident in which seven people had been gunned down by their rivals three months back, the DPO said the remaining 24 nominated accused would be arrested within a week.
