Trace Hit poised to win Pakistan Oaks 2006

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Nov 18: Chestnut filly, Trace Hit, with the form she is in presently is set to win the Dewan Petroleum Pakistan Oaks 2006 to be gone over the grueling distance of 2000 metres at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The prestigious event for four-year-old fillies called the 'Fillies Derby" has a small but impressive five runners field representing leading Lahore horse owners.

Trace Hit, with a brilliant racing record of seven wins and as many places in her total 19 outings to date stands out. However, there will be a strong contest for the second and third position. This will be the sixth race in racing order.

The main supporting event, the Zaheer-ud-Din Mohammad Babar cup, a class I, II and III combined handicap race to be contested over 1600m has ten contenders. Of them two colts, Fajr and Sher-e-Gujrat come into reckoning The distance of the race and handicap favours Fajr, who is placed at eight stones in weight scales compared to Sher-e-Gujrat's eight stones ten pounds. English thoroughbred Brummell, although placed at top of the handicap at ten stones ten pounds is capable of putting up a strong challenge to both as English thoroughbreds are accustomed to carry on heavy weight as well.

The second supporting event, the Tariq Bin Zyad cup, a class IV division II and III handicap race over 1400 metres has a good field of ten contestants. Of them Ferrari, Fido Dido, Volcano and Desert Queen are prominent entries.

The filly, Ferrari, has an edge over the distance. The other three may form the vanguard of challengers.

The colt The Senators opens his debut in the race for two-year-old half-bred colts and fillies and is favoured to win. His close rivals should be Aaja Bulbul, Beautiful Baby and Richy Dancer.
