LAHORE, Nov 14: Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq, lauding fine efforts of his players in the first Test victory over the West Indies, said the win had come as a huge boost after team’s lacklustre show during the last two international tours.

"After a bad performance in the last Champions Trophy and the series in England, we were in need of a win and thank God the bowlers and batsmen made it possible with their extra efforts," Inzamam said in the post-match address to newsmen. "I would like them to put in similar efforts in the remaining two Tests and I believe my boys are capable of achieving it," said the delighted captain who returned to the arena after missing three ODIs following an ICC ban of imposed on him for bringing the game into disrepute at The Oval.

He denied the impression that Pakistan had fielded a second string bowling in the Test in absence of Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif. "Though Shoaib and Asif are good bowlers, this is also our first choice attack which has been named for the first two Tests," he said.

Asked about the ordinary faring of leg-spinner Danish Kaneria in the match, Inzamam said the bowler was a bit unlucky but he bowled very well. Kaneria could claim just three wickets in the two innings.

"It is not necessary that one player performs in every match and I believe he will remain a threat for the visitors," said Inzy.

The skipper admitted he would be somewhat under pressure while playing in the second Test at home town Multan from Nov 19. About his own form, Inzamam said he entered the field after a lay-off but will try to give better performance in the coming matches.
