Villagers kill two POs in shootout

SAHIWAL, Nov 14: Two proclaimed offenders were killed on Monday night in a shootout with villagers near Chak 131/9-L.

Reports said that union council nazim Mehr Riazul Haq was present in the fertilizer shop of his brother Irfan when three armed bandits came there on a motorcycle and held them hostage. Later, they collected Rs59,000 in cash, cell phones and escaped.

On their raising of alarm, villagers rushed to the spot and then besieged the cotton crop field in which the bandits had taken a refuge. Armed villagers opened fire on bandits, killing two of them on the spot and injuring their third accomplice who managed to escape from the scene.

The dead were identified as POs Omri Bhojowana and Asary Muslim Sheikh. They were wanted by police in six dacoity cases.

They were also involved in firing at the house of MPA Pir Walayat Shah Khagga about a month back. Police also recovered two rifles, a pistol, one stolen motorcycle and Rs17,412 in cash from the spot.

Police are looking into the matter.

RECOVERED: A local court bailiff recovered eight labourers, including a woman and her infant, after a raid on a kiln in Chak 119/9-L.

Reports said that Mustafa moved the court alleging that kiln owners Khizer Hayat and Muhammad Ashraf had detained his relatives.

Those recovered were: Nazir, Munir, Sabir Ali, Nasir, Muhammad Ali, Ramzan, Niamat Bibi and her infant. The court ordered them to set free.

CASE: Carrying out Lahore High Court orders, the Civil Lines police on Tuesday registered a case against sub-inspector Rao Naseem Akhtar for detaining unlawfully workshop owner Ghulam Rasool.
