Umpires Aleem Dar, Asad Rauf to officiate in major Test series

LAHORE, Nov 11: Aleem Dar, Pakistan’s first-choice official on the ICC elite panel of umpires, has been nominated to stand in the last three Tests of the five-match Ashes series between Australia and England.

According to the provisional postings released by the game’s international body, Aleem is due to stand alongside South Africa’s Rudi Koertzen in the Tests at Perth (Dec 14-18) and Melbourne (Dec 26-30).

The Pakistani is also scheduled to partner Billy Bowden of New Zealand in the series finale at Sydney from Jan 2, 2007.

Aleem’s compatriot on the elite panel Asad Rauf, who was forced to return home last month during the ICC Champions Trophy in India following the demise of his mother in Lahore, is slated to supervise the final two Tests when South Africa host India at Durban (Dec 26-30) and Cape Town (Jan 2-6). England Mark Benson and Daryl Harper will be the on-field umpires with Asad.

Asad and South Africa’s Ian Howell will swap duties during the month-long triangular tournament involving hosts Australia, England and New Zealand, starting from Jan 12.

Following are the nominations of on-field umpires and match referees announced by the ICC for the forthcoming matches:

PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES

First Test at Lahore (Nov 11-15); Umpires: Simon Taufel (Australia) and Asoka de Silva (Sri Lanka); Match referee: Roshan Mahanama (Sri Lanka).

Second Test at Multan (Nov 19-23): Umpires: Daryl Harper (Australia) and Mark Benson (England); Match referee: Roshan Mahanama.

Third Test at Karachi (Nov 27-Dec 1): Umpires: Harper and Benson; Match referee: Roshan Mahanama.

First ODI at Rawalpindi (Dec 5): Umpires: Harper and Nadeem Ghauri

(Pakistan); Match referee: Alan Hurst (Australia).

Second ODI at Faisalabad (Dec 7): Umpires: Harper and Aleem Dar (Pakistan); Match referee: Alan Hurst.

Third ODI at Lahore (Dec 10): Umpires: Nigel Llong (England) and Asad Rauf

(Pakistan); Match referee: Alan Hurst.
