SHEIKHUPURA, Nov 11: President Pervez Musharraf has announced that a university will be established in Ferozewala at a cost of Rs20 billion.
The president made this announcement while addressing a large gathering after inaugurating four-lane Lahore-Sheikhpura-Faisalabad dual carriageway here on Saturday.
The president said that the university, to be set up with the financial support of Germany, would become functional by 2008. He said the university would be one of nine such universities the government planned to open throughout the country.
He also announced two other projects for Sheikhupura — the Shahkot bypass and an interchange on the motorway for Manawala.
The president announced that the federal government would pool resources for an overhead bridge in Ferozewala.
The federal government, he said, would also share the expenditure of water and sewerage schemes for Ferozewala and Sharqpur tehsils and Manawala town that needed around Rs1.2 billion.
He said the government would also establish an industrial estate in Sheikhupura with an expenditure of Rs6 billion.
Earlier, President Pervez Musharraf was received by Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and other high-ups at a helipad at 2.54pm.
